On January 24, 2017, the New York State Police in Bath responded to a one car motor vehicle accident on Interstate 86 eastbound in the town of Avoca. The driver, Emily Woodrum of Webb City, Missouri was transporting over one hundred puppies to local malls in a box van when she lost control of her vehicle due to unsafe speed and went off the southbound shoulder striking the ditch and overturning.

T and R Towing responded and with the assistance of Troopers Mark Bernard, Jordan Sheehan and Pete Peters all of the puppies were removed from the box van. Five of the puppies sustained minor injuries and were quickly treated by Steuben County SPCA. The driver of the van was in the process of delivering the puppies to local pet stores.

A photograph of Trooper Mark Bernard is shown below holding one of the puppies that was removed from the box van.
