Arson unit investigating NJ fire that left woman, 26, in critical condition

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released the following information:

NEW JERSEY — On Monday, May 20, 2019, at approximately 6:15 p.m., the Guttenberg Police Department received a 911 call reporting a fire on 70th Street in Guttenberg. First responders to the area found an active fire at 67 70th Street.

An unresponsive female victim, age 26, from Guttenberg was found in the ground level hallway of the residential building. She was initially transported by Emergency Medical Services to Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen before being airlifted to St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston where she remains in critical condition.

A preliminary investigation by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force has determined that the fire began at 67 70th Street and that no other buildings were affected. The fire was contained to the first level of the structure. The investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is pending.

Agencies responding to the fire were the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Regional Arson Task Force, the Guttenberg Police Department, North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue, the Hudson County Office of Emergency Management, and the Guttenberg Office of Emergency Management.

The Regional Arson Task Force is actively investigating this incident with assistance from the Guttenberg Police Department.
