WARNING: (The images included in this article are of a graphic nature.) At least 17 people have been killed and dozens have been wounded in a twin suicide attack in Lebanon’s capital Beirut.
The explosion is believed to have taken place in a predominantly Shia neighbourhood Burj al-Barajneh, to the south of the city, a city official toldĀ theĀ Associated Press.
At least 37 people were killed, while scores more were injured in the blasts, with Sky News reporting as many as 40 people had been hurt.
Images on social media showed a scene of devastation, with scores of people running through streets littered with debris.
The Red Cross is now reporting that the toll from the twin blasts in Beirut has risen to 23 people killed and over 105 injured.
An Islamic State affiliated group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
