Attempted Murder Suspect Shot Dead By Cops In Tennessee

EAST TENNESSEE — TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday afternoon in Hawkins County.

Officials say the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office received information that a male subject wanted on felony attempted murder warrants out of Dickenson County, Virginia was at a residence on Okolona Road in Church Hill. Deputies responded to the residence and spotted the subject in a vehicle in the driveway. Deputies approached the car and asked the man to show them his hands. At that point, the subject reached for a gun. One of the deputies fired shots, striking the subject. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputies were not injured.

The suspect has been identified as Eugene Loftis, 25.

The TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents.
