Phoenix, Arizona — The Phoenix Police Department released a Critical Incident Briefing (CIB) video that includes audio, visuals and information related to an officer-involved shooting (OIS) which occurred on November 13, 2020, at approximately 5:45 a.m. in the area of 19th Avenue and Indian School Road. While patrolling the area, officers observed a man assault a woman near the roadway. A physical altercation between the couple was also captured on surveillance video from a nearby business. Officers stopped to investigate, and as they got out of their patrol vehicle, a man later identified as 35-year-old Brian Streeter, began moving quickly away from officers and pulled a handgun from his waistband. While Streeter was moving away from officers, he first pointed the handgun at himself and then moved it around quickly pointing it in different directions. Both officers repeated commands for Streeter to stop and to drop the weapon, which he ignored.

Streeter turned down an alleyway and began heading towards the last known location of the victim, an open business, and an occupied roadway. Both officers fired their service weapons, striking Streeter. Once Streeter moved away from the weapon, officers were able to approach him and safely render first aid. A tourniquet was placed on Streeter’s leg as officers requested medical assistance. Phoenix Fire Department personnel transported him to a local hospital for additional treatment of his injuries. The weapon used by Streeter was recovered at the scene. Streeter remains hospitalized, and upon release will be booked on multiple felony charges. The officers involved are assigned to the Black Mountain Precinct. The driver officer is 23 years old with about 2 years of service. The passenger officer is 29 years old with about 2 years of service. There were no injuries to officers or other community members.
