Bodycam, Surveillance Footage of Tucson Police Officers Shooting Armed Man Outside Hookah Lounge

Tucson, Arizona — On August 20th, 2022 the Pima Regional critical incident team was activated for a Tucson Police Department officer-involved shooting, and the 3700 Block of South 16th Avenue, near Ajo way and i-19. Just before 3:30 am, the Tucson Public Safety Communications Department received a 9-1-1 call about a fight at a hookah lounge with one person displaying a firearm. Tucson police officers from Operations Division South responded to the parking lot of the business. Tucson police’s initial response to the lounge was for a report of a fight involving a gun. When officers arrived, the involved participants had left the area. While speaking with the staff officers were told of a second fight inside the lounge.

As the officers approached the lounge, multiple patrons were seen running away from the lounge into the parking lot. The officers then encountered a man holding a handgun. TPD officers began giving commands for the man to drop the weapon. The man did not comply and two of the officers fired their Duty weapon, striking the man.

It took approximately three minutes for the officers to begin rendering aid to the suspect, since they needed additional resources to make the scene safe. Once the scene was safe, officers began administering life-saving measures on the man. The man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The man has been identified as 25-year-old Adum Mahamat.
