LAS CRUCES, New Mexico – U.S. Border Patrol Agents from New Mexico were first on the scene to provide assistance to three occupants of a roll-over car accident west of Las Cruces on Monday.
Time was of the essence when the Agents were advised about the car crash on Interstate 10, and quickly mobilized in anticipation of the severity of the situation. Agents made their way to mile-marker 114, where the vehicle was located.
Border Patrol Agents, to include a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), arrived on the scene and found several subjects including an older male and a young child who appeared to have minor injuries, and were responsive. A third person encountered was an unresponsive pregnant female. Agents quickly evaluated the situation and requested medical air-support for her.
After a brief evaluation by U.S. Border Patrol first responders and EMT, the female became responsive. Within minutes medical air support arrived to airlift the pregnant woman to a Las Cruces hospital for evaluation. New Mexico State Police arrived on scene and assumed the investigation of the incident. The westbound lane of I-10 was closed, and traffic was detoured onto New Mexico frontage Road 549 to allow medical personnel to treat the occupants of the vehicle. The adult male and young child were evaluated and determined to have minor injuries. They were consequently released from the scene of the accident by New Mexico State Police.
