GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. – Yesterday, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to patrol Grand Island observed a helicopter hovering at a very low altitude over a parking lot on Beaver Island State Park, at approximately 8:20 p.m. The Buffalo Station agents then conducted a search of the area and along the brush line near a community hiking trail discovered four large red duffel bags containing marijuana.
The Erie County Sheriff’s Office was contacted, provided air support and conducted a K-9 search of the area with negative results. Located inside each duffel bag were 25 sealed plastic packages of marijuana with a total weight of 108 pounds and an estimated street value of approximately $151,200.
“Border Patrol agents are the nation’s first line of defense. U.S. Federal Law prohibits the importation of marijuana and our agents will continue to enforce the law to prevent the illegal importation of narcotics, including marijuana”, said Patrol Agent in Charge Jeffrey Wilson, of the Buffalo Station.
An investigation into the incident is currently being conducted by Federal, State and Local authorities.
