A 33 year old assistant scoutmaster at a suburban New York Boy Scouts troop has now been arrested for giving drugs and alcohol to a 13-year-old troop member.

Lawrence Moschitta, 32, of West Babylon, was arrested at the weekend and accused of giving the boy LSD marijuana and alcohol at his home in Long Island, court documents say.

The boy, who has not been named, was at Moschitta’s home at around 10am on December 3 when the scoutmaster gave him the illicit substances, the documents claim.

According to a letter written by Scoutmaster Guy Zummo to parents, the boy had been at Moshitta’s house but was not involved in a Scout function at the time.

Moschitta, who works as an operations manager at a Long Island industrial business, was charged with two misdemeanors of unlawfully dealing with a child and failure to exercise control of a minor.

He was released on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.

Anthony Moschitta, who is also a Boy Scouts official and has been for for 35 years, called the charges ‘shocking’.

He denied that his son could have been involved in the crimes, adding: ‘He would never do anything to endanger a Scout.’

Moschitta was removed from Troop 183’s charter and is no longer a member of the Boy Scouts, according to a letter written by Scoutmaster Guy Zummo to parents.

The letter said the troop is working closely with police in the ongoing investigation.
