Alex Murdaugh Trial Suspended, Courthouse Evacuated Following Bomb Threat

WALTERBORO, S.C. — The South Carolina courthouse hosting the double murder trial of Alex Murdaugh received a bomb threat during proceedings on Wednesday, leading to the building’s evacuation, according to court officials.

Circuit Court Judge Clifton Newman announced the evacuation just before 12:30 p.m.

The threat is being investigated by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office.

Alex Murdaugh, 54, is on trial for the fatal shooting of his wife and son in June 2021, a case that has received national attention.

The trial started three weeks ago.
