WASHINGTON — A 25-year-old Florida man armed with a knife was arrested near the White House Saturday.
The suspect, Roger Hedgpeth, reportedly told Secret Service agents that he was there to “assassinate” President Donald Trump, D.C. police said.
Hedgpeth walked up to a Secret Service officer and said he was there to kill the President, adding, “I have a knife to do it with.”
A 3 1/2-inch knife in a sheath was found on his person along with an empty gun holster.
He was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation with charges pending. His vehicle was also impounded.
