The body of a U.S. soldier has been found outside of a home in Killeen, Texas on Tuesday morning. KCEN News reports that the soldier, based in Fort Hood, had recently returned from a deployment to West Africa.
Emergency responders were sent to the scene after receiving an 8 a.m. call and a neighbor said that he saw the body on the grass at about 7:30.
A justice of the peace was called to make the pronouncement of death.
There is no information on the soldier at this time.
Officials say there are no indications that the soldier had Ebola, however medical personnel at Carl R. Darnall Medical Center are performing tests as a precaution to ensure there are no threats to the community.
Soldiers returning from West Africa must undergo a 21 day monitoring period in a controlled site on post. Officials report that this soldier was granted an emergency leave – not medical related – and was under self monitoring and had to check in with officials twice a day.
A Hazmat crew removed the body from the premises, where it will likely go to Houston for testing.
