ALABAMA — At least two police officers were injured when gunfire broke out near a hotel in downtown Birmingham Wednesday evening.
One officer was confirmed shot and the suspect is reportedly dead. Other officers were injured.
The incident may have originated as a police pursuit.
The officer who was struck by gunfire was rushed to UAB Hospital in a colleague’s patrol car — condition unknown.
Alabama Local News reported: There is a massive police presence in downtown Birmingham, including officers with rifles and bulletproof vests.
Police have ordered all pedestrians within a several block radius of the Redmont Hotel on 5th Avenue North and 22nd Street North to find shelter.
