MANHATTAN — The USNS Comfort, which is currently docked in New York, will now be used for coronavirus patients. The initial plan called for non-COVID-19 patients to be admitted to the hospital ship to free up hospital rooms in the city.

New York Governor Cuomo said Monday, “I spoke to the president and he has agreed to our request to treat COVID patients on the USNS Comfort. This means 1,000 additional beds staffed by federal personnel. This will provide much-needed relief to our over stressed hospital systems.”

On Sunday, President Trump suggested that was a possibility, “That was not supposed to be for the virus at all and under circumstances. It looks like more and more we’ll be using it for that. The ship is ready and if we need it for the virus, we’ll use it for that.”
