A confidential FBI informant tipped off the feds to what documents Donald Trump was hiding at Mar-A-Lago and where, according to a new bombshell report from Newsweek.

The report says the informant also worked with the FBI to time the raid when the former President would be away from the property.

“What a spectacular backfire,” the unnamed Justice Department official said, indicating the execution of the search warrant was a failure due to outrage from Republican leadership and Trump supporters.

“I know that there is much speculation out there that this is political persecution, but it is really the best and the worst of the bureaucracy in action,” the official said. “They wanted to punctuate the fact that this was a routine law enforcement action, stripped of any political overtones, and yet [they] got exactly the opposite.”

Trump has insisted the raid was politically motivated as he was already cooperating with a probe by the National Archives.

On Tuesday, White House Press Sec. Karine Jean-Pierre dodged questions when asked about the search.
