WASHINGTON — A staffer for Senator Maria Cantwell (D) in Washington D.C. has tested positive for the deadly coronavirus—this is the first known case of the virus on Capitol Hill.
“The individual has been in isolation since starting to have symptoms,” according to a statement from Cantwell’s office. “On the advice of the Attending Physician, the senator has closed her Washington, D.C. office this week for deep cleaning and staff will be teleworking.”
The news release added the patient has had “no known contact with the senator or other members of Congress.”
Other staff members who may have had contact with the staffer who tested positive will also be tested for COVID-19.
