Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly announced Thursday the first death related to COVID-19 in Wyandotte County.
Officials said the patient was a man in his 70s with underlying health conditions.
Governor Kelly also declared a state of emergency due to the outbreak.
At least 39 people in the United States have died from the virus.
