Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed into law CS/CS/SB 7030 —  “Implementation of Legislative Recommendations of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission.”

This bill allows more teachers to be armed on school property.

Under the law, teachers can only carry guns in districts where the school board approves it. Multiple districts have already said they will not comply with the legislation.

Teachers who want to carry firearms on campus will be required to undergo a psychological evaluation, background checks, drug tests and over 100 hours of police-like training.

The bill was brought to vote following the mass shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018 in which seventeen students and staff members were killed.
