LOS ANGELES — Former NFL running back Lawrence Phillips was found dead in a California prison on Wednesday. Phillips, 40, was found unresponsive in his cell. Suicide is suspected, the California Department of Corrections said.
Phillips had recently been accused of killing a fellow inmate.
Phillips was sentenced to a total of 31 years in a California prison for attacking his former girlfriend and for assault when driving his car into three teenagers in 2005.
