Smithsburg, MARYLAND – At least three people were killed in a shooting at Columbia Machine in the town of Smithsburg Thursday. An unspecified number of other people were injured, including a State Trooper, officials said.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the scene remains active, but added there is “no threat to the community.”
“On June 9, 2022, at approximately 2:30 PM, deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 12900 block of Bikle Road, Smithsburg, MD, in reference to a shooting,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “At this time the Sheriff’s Office can confirm that there are multiple victims and the suspect is no longer a threat to the community. This is a rapidly evolving incident and we will release information as we are able.”

US Rep. David Trone tweeted about the “mass shooting” in Smithsburg.
“If you’re local, please stay way from the area as law enforcement responds,” he wrote.

The number of those injured was not immediately known. The ATF is responding to the area to assist in the investigation.

Smithsburg is roughly 70 miles northwest of Washington, D.C.
