Man Crashes Security Gate, Attempts to Steal Lear Jet

WACO, Texas — This afternoon shortly after 12:00 p.m. a man crashed through a gate and accessed a secure area of the Waco Regional Airport attempting to steal a Lear Jet.

Shortly after noon today a white male crashed his vehicle into and thru a security gate gaining him access to the tarmac of Waco Regional Airport. The suspect approached a parked Lear Jet belonging to a local business and was seen by Texas Aero employees attempting to remove the tire chocks and get into the jet. Employees flagged down a Waco police officer who was off-duty and working Airport Security.

The officer approached the suspect who was armed with a stick and refused to cooperate with the officers instructions. The suspect was tazed several times with no affect, forcing the officer to have to physically restrain him. Texas Aero employees saw the officer struggling with the individual and came to assist. Those employees helped the officer subdue the individual and all were able to handcuff him.

The suspect is known to the department and has a history of mental issues. It is believed he may also have been under the influence of narcotics. He has been taken to Providence Hospital for a mental health evaluation. Once medically cleared, the suspect will face charges of Criminal Trespass, Attempted Theft (of the Lear Jet), Criminal Mischief and Resisting Arrest. -WPD
