The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

Staff Sgt. Samuel D. Lecce, 32, of Jefferson, Tenn., died Dec. 19, 2022, as the result of a ‘non-combat related incident’ in Iraq. This incident is under investigation.

“Our highest priority remains our people, as we focus on providing the necessary services and resources to support his family and friends during this difficult time,” the DOD said.

Lecce was assigned to the 3rd Marine Raider Battalion, Marine Forces Special Operations Command, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

No other information was immediately available.
