Inyo County, California — A Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet fighter jet went down in Death Valley National Park Wednesday.
The U.S. Navy aircraft crashed on the west side of Death Valley National Park, near the Father Crowley Overlook, KNTV reported.
The pilot has been confirmed dead, the Navy said, “The Navy has confirmed that the pilot of the FA-18E died in the crash. In accordance with DoD policy, the identity of the pilot will be withheld 24 hours. The Navy mourns the loss of one of our own and our thoughts go out to the family and friends affected by this tragedy.”
Rescue crews were dispatched to the area from Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake.
At approximately 10:00 a.m PST an F/A-18E crashed near @NAWS_CL. Search-and-rescue efforts are underway.
