Inmates Take Over Portion of Cook County Jail In Chicago; Hostage Rescued

ILLINOIS — At least two inmates at the Cook County Jail in Chicago took a fellow inmate hostage inside the facility Thursday.

Officials resolved the situation after deploying a flash bang and entering the area.

From NBC Chicago: “According to the Cook County Sheriff’s office, the two detainees covered the floor of Division 10 with soapy water and obscured the fixed cameras within the tier before ripping the cameras down entirely.”

The hostage takers were reportedly armed with some type of shank.

When police rescued the hostage, he was discovered to have a stab wound to the leg.

There were multiple other inmates in the pod. Division 10 is the maximum security area of the jail.

It was unclear what sparked the incident.

No Officers were injured.
