NEW YORK — Multiple people, including several children, were killed after a massive blaze broke out at a Bronx apartment building Thursday night.

Nearly 200 FDNY members were battling the 4-alarm fire—located at 2363 Prospect Avenue, near the Bronx Zoo.

Twelve people were killed, including a 1-year-old child. Several other victims are seriously injured. The fire was knocked down around 8:30 p.m.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio briefed reporters on scene. “This is the worst fire tragedy we have seen in this city in at least a quarter-century,” de Blasio said. “Based on the information we have now, this will rank as one of the worst losses of life in many, many years.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
