The White House is in lockdown after reports of gunshots.

This comes just one month after another incident caused a lockdown at the presidential complex.

The White House was placed on lockdown after shots were fired in the surrounding area.

The shooting involved a member of the Secret Service.

The District of Columbia Fire and EMS spokesman Doug Buchanan said one patient taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, shortly after 3pm.

A D.C. police spokesman said the Secret Services was investigating.

The suspect approached a secret service checkpoint, brandished a firearm and was engaged by the Secret Service and shot in the abdomen.

Members of the press have been told to shelter in place, they were then moved to the basement after reports of shots fired at the corner of West Executive and Pennsylvania avenues.

President Obama was at Andrews Air Force Base and not in the White House at the time.
