NEW YORK — Officers with the NYPD responded to the Twin Park West complex on Valentine Avenue in the West Bronx around 8 a.m.

The caller said a man was threatening his girlfriend with a gun. A witness later told police that she saw the man, 19, holding a gun to the 19-year-old woman’s head in an elevator.

When the Officers arrived, the door to the apartment was half-way open. The Officers commanded the man to come out… The suspect ran into a bedroom and a woman yelled: “Help me, help me, he is going to kill me,” NBC-NY reported.

The Officers kicked in the door to the bedroom. The suspect was holding the woman by her neck and was pointing a .38-caliber revolver to her head.

The 19-year-old suspect then aimed his weapon at the Officers. At that time, the woman was able to break free. Officers fired on the suspect, striking him several times. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The victim was hospitalized and is recovering after being pistol-whipped in the face and grazed by a bullet. She is expected to survive.

According to NBC-NY, the deceased suspect was on parole for a robbery conviction and had a history of prior arrests.

His identity isn’t being released until his family is notified of his death.
