FLORIDA — On 5/15/15 Detectives from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit responded to 17450 SE 260 Ave Rd in reference to information concerning illegal firearms and explosives being stored on the property.

The information advised that a possible “Rocket Propelled Grenade Launcher” and “missiles” were being stored in a safe inside a shed on the property.

The tip also advised that the occupants of the shed intended to use the Rocket Launcher on the Eustis Police Department on May 18th. The reason for targeting the Eustis Police Department was due to recent “run-ins” with their officers.

Detectives were able to obtain and execute a search warrant fro the listed property. A search of the shed revealed 22 firearms, several containers of black powder, over a pound of marijuana, powder and crack cocaine, prescription pills, scales, 2 bullet proof vests, and other drug paraphernalia.

Officials did not find a rocket-launcher.

Christopher Conger and Jeremy M. Robertson were located inside the shed and arrested.

Fred Cobb, the Eustis police chief, said he was “blindsided” by news of the planned attack.

“With everything that’s going on in our nation today, it’s concerning,” Cobb said. “I was on the phone with the sheriff of Marion County this morning and shared those concerns. We take any threat directed at our officers seriously.”

In reviewing their files, Cobb said he didn’t find anything “out of the ordinary.” One of the men was arrested on a parole violation last year, and the other man wasn’t even a Eustis police case.
