SANTEE, Calif. — A small plane crashed near a High School in San Diego County Monday around noon. At least two people are confirmed dead.

The Cessna 340A crashed into homes and also hit a UPS truck, killing the driver. There are reports of other casualties but an exact number remains unclear.

The aircraft went down near North Magnolia Avenue and 2nd street — smoke could be seen for miles.

Officials say the scheduled flight path was from Yuma, Arizona to Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in San Diego.

Santana High School tweeted, “All Students are Secure. There was a plane crash 2 or 3 blocks away. We are currently in a ‘Secure Campus.'”

The Santee Fire Department and the San Diego Sheriff’s Department are both on scene.

It was not immediately known what type of plane was involved or how many people were on-board.

This is a developing story.
