On Sunday, a concerned citizen notified the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) of an “online threat of violence potentially occurring” at a scheduled Bernie Sanders campaign rally in the City of Long Beach, police said.

On Monday, detectives identified and arrested 27-year-old Jose Rafael Guzman of Huntington Park and he has been booked for criminal threats and threatening a public officer. Guzman was being held on $50,000 bail at the Long Beach City Jail and has since posted bail.

Police did not elaborate on the nature of the threats.

“We take all potential threats of violence very seriously and thoroughly investigate all reported incidents,” said Chief Robert Luna. “Our department will remain vigilant and continue to be visible to ensure the safety of our community.”

Sanders is holding a rally Tuesday evening at Long Beach City College.
