BRANFORD, CT — Police in Branford were taking on gunfire in a residential neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.
Police responded to a call of shots fired around 12:30 p.m. local time near Main Street and Cherry Hill.
Roads in the area were closed and a SWAT team was called in. Video from the scene showed officers taking cover as a flurry of gunfire is heard.

“Please avoid this area, the scene is not safe. Several police agencies are assisting and the South Central Regional SWAT Team is arriving,” Branford Police wrote on Facebook.

There is an active threat on Main St in Branford. CSP is assisting Branford PD. I95 Ex 53 is shut down. Anyone traveling in or around the area use alternate routes & avoid the area. The scene is active fluid & ongoing. Updates will provide will be provided when available
