Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) has been hospitalized in California due to the shingles virus.

The 89-year-old Senator said in a statement, “I was diagnosed over the February recess with a case of shingles. I have been hospitalized and am receiving treatment in San Francisco and expect to make a full recovery. I hope to return to the Senate later this month.”

The Mayo Clinic states that shingles, a viral infection that results in a painful rash, is typically not life-threatening. However, individuals over the age of 60 are at a greater risk of developing shingles and may experience more severe complications.
