US Capitol Police Disputes Report The Officer Has Died

WASHINGTON — One of the United States Capitol police officers injured in Wednesday’s Chaos on Capitol Hill has died, CNN reported Thursday, citing sources. Shortly after, the department said that account was inaccurate.

“Media reports regarding the death of a United States Capitol Police (USCP) officer are not accurate. Although some officers were injured and hospitalized yesterday, no USCP officers have passed away,” Capitol Police said in a prepared statement. We ask that our officers’ and their families’ privacy be respected at this time. Should a statement become necessary, the Department will issue one at the appropriate time.”

It would be the fifth death related to the violent protest. A woman was fatally shot by law enforcement and three more died from medical conditions, police said.
