WASHINGTON — The US Capitol and it’s visitors center was placed on lockdown Tuesday during a police chase and shooting.

A shelter-in-place was also ordered. The lockdown has since been lifted.

Police were initially called to the scene after reports of a man with a gun. When police arrived, the suspect vehicle fled.

Three suspects bailed from the car and all three were later captured.

A ‘Mac 11 machine gun’ was reportedly recovered at the scene, police said – a shot was also fired at officers.

From NBC Washington: ‘The chase led to a tunnel that goes under the Frances Perkins Building, which houses the U.S. Department of Labor, located at 200 Constitution Avenue, about two blocks from the Capitol, [Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy] Lanier said. As the car entered the tunnel, one suspect leaned out of the car and fired at least one round at pursuing officers, Lanier said.’

There were no injuries.

The investigation continues.
