Ventura, CA — On November 28, 2017 Sheriff’s deputies from our Headquarters Patrol Station received a call to a residence in the 2600 block of Eucalyptus Street in the unincorporated community of Nyeland Acres regarding possible narcotic activity. Deputies contacted the subject of the call, Eduardo Garcia, who is currently on parole for felony battery of a peace officer. Deputies had information of Garcia’s past violence and additional resources responded to assist. During the initial contact, Garcia was acting paranoid and deputies believed he appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.

Deputies attempted to peacefully arrest Garcia inside his residence. During the initial contact, he resisted the deputies and assaulted them. During this struggle, Garcia was able to forcefully take a Taser from a deputy and attempted to shoot the deputy with the Taser. Garcia discharged the Taser, missed the deputy, and shot the Taser darts toward an uninvolved family member.

Garcia was handcuffed and arrested with the help of other deputies. Garcia was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for his drug use and minor injuries he sustained during the struggle. Garcia was booked at the Ventura County Main Jail on resisting an executive officer by means of force, battery on a peace officer causing injury, taking a weapon from a peace officer, and attempted assault with a deadly weapon. Detectives contacted agents from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and notified them of the crimes.

As a result of the struggle, two deputies were injured and treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.
