MERCED, CA — On Wednesday night, shortly after 10:00 P.M. Officers received a call from a resident in the 600 Block of W. Yosemite Avenue regarding a break in.
The resident further related to the dispatcher that the suspect kicked in the door to his residence. The homeowner armed himself with a shotgun.
The suspect continued into the residence toward the homeowner who fired a shot in self-defense. The shot had fatal results and the suspect, a male in his 30’s was pronounced deceased.
The homeowner is cooperating with investigators and states he did not know the suspect. Investigators will continue to follow up on leads to determine a motive for the break in. The homeowner was not injured during the break in.

The identity of the suspect is not being released pending notification to the next of kin.
No charges have been filed.
