Santa Rosa, CALIF. – On Thursday, November 2, 2023, at around 3:40 pm, Santa Rosa Police officers responded to a call in the 2500-block of Pomo Trail. What they encountered was a scene of unimaginable horror.
Inside the residence, they discovered the lifeless body of an adult female, her head severed from her body. Shockingly, the victim’s head was nowhere to be found.
Detectives say the victim’s own relative, Luis Gustavo Aroyo-Lopez, a 24-year-old resident of Santa Rosa, was identified as the prime suspect in the murder.
It is believed that Aroyo-Lopez killed the victim before making an escape, carrying her severed head with him.
Police later confirmed that Aroyo-Lopez had been taken into custody. However, they have not disclosed whether they were able to recover the victim’s severed head.
Aroyo-Lopez was recently released from state prison, he was placed on Postrelease Community Supervision (PRCS). His prior incarceration was related to charges of assault with a deadly weapon and weapons possession, which were unrelated to the victim in this incident.
The investigation continues.
