Georgetown, South Carolina — Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report on Moore Drive, Hemingway, Tuesday of a person attacked by a wild animal. The victim stated the animal, a large black cat, dragged him into a ditch as he was walking along Dennis Drive toward Willard Loop.

The victim said he saw a cub cross the road just before he felt something grab his pants leg and drag him to the ground. He said the animal ripped his shirt sleeve off before walking away and making a “crying noise.” He said the animal was a black colored oversized cat-like animal approximately waist high with a tail that dragged the ground.

Investigators concluded that the man’s report of being attacked is false.

Rickey Wesley Lynch, 33, of Moore Drive, Hemingway, is being interviewed at the sheriff’s office after admitting a story about an encounter with a large black cat while walking in his neighborhood was not true. Charges from the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office are pending.

Sheriff’s deputies spent hours Monday night patrolling the nearby roads after Lynch said the black cat knocked him into a ditch and scratched him.
