BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. – A Brooklyn Park man was charged with sexually assaulting a young child at a park, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.

Jonah Canny, 18, was charged with a single count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct. He is expected to make his first court appearance Wednesday. Prosecutors are seeking bail of $250,000.

According to the criminal complaint, a family went to Willowstone Park in Brooklyn Park at about 6 p.m. May 26. About three hours later, the family was ready to leave when they noticed a 6-year-old family member was missing. The child’s uncle saw him come out of a portable toilet with a teenager following close behind.

The uncle confronted the teenager who said the child was stuck in the port-a-potty and he had gone in to get the child out. When the family got home, the child said someone removed the 6-year-old’s clothes and touched the child’s genitals and buttocks, the complaint states. When the child’s mother called police, the uncle gave a detailed description of the man he confronted and picked Canny out of a photo line-up which included Canny’s driver’s license photo.
