CINCINNATI– U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers at an Express Consignment Operations hub in Cincinnati examined a package from China that listed its contents as mask April 3.

The shipment was selected for exam and had a declared value of $500. When the officers inspected the package they discovered 2,000 counterfeit 3M masks, an Intellectual Property Rights violation. Due to the quantity of masks, the domestic value was listed as $2,000. If the masks were real, the MSRP would have been $7,000.

The package was destined for a residence in Austin, Texas. “Cincinnati CBP screens freight from all over the world,” said Richard Gillespie, Cincinnati Port Director . “Our officers are highly trained and work around the clock to protect the people of the United States.” CBP officers seized the package for trademark violation.

CBP conducts operations at ports of entry throughout the United States, and regularly screens arriving international passengers and cargo for narcotics, weapons, and other restricted or prohibited products.
