The company, Rocky Boots, reports one incident of the boots’ snake guard failing in which a Rocky Brands contractor sustained injuries from a snake bite while demonstrating the product.

Rocky Brands Inc., of Nelsonville, Ohio asked the Consumer Product Safety Commission to recall about 1,800 pairs of the boots after the incident. The company is offering to refund customers’ money or replace the boots with a pair that hasn’t failed the ultimate snake bite test, NBC said.

Consumers should stop wearing the recalled boots immediately and contact Rocky Brands for a full refund or a free pair of replacement snakebite-proof hunting boots in one of the following models: Lynx Snake, Classic Lynx Snake, Prolight Snake in lace up, pull-on or side-zip styles.

Various retailers nationwide, including Tomlinson’s, Bowie Outfitters, and Mossy Oak stores sold the boots.

Rocky Brands Inc. toll-free at (866) 245-2159 from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. ET Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Snake bites can be deadly if not treated quickly. Children are at higher risk for death or serious complications due to snake bites because of their smaller body size.

The right antivenom can save a person’s life. Getting to an emergency room as quickly as possible is very important. If properly treated, many snake bites will not have serious effects.

(The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death associated with the use of thousands of types of consumer products under the agency’s jurisdiction. Deaths, injuries, and property damage from consumer product incidents cost the nation more than $1 trillion annually. CPSC is committed to protecting consumers and families from products that pose a fire, electrical, chemical or mechanical hazard. CPSC’s work to help ensure the safety of consumer products – such as toys, cribs, power tools, cigarette lighters and household chemicals -– contributed to a decline in the rate of deaths and injuries associated with consumer products over the past 40 years.

Federal law bars any person from selling products subject to a publicly-announced voluntary recall by a manufacturer or a mandatory recall ordered by the Commission.)
