DALLAS, TEXAS  — A Dallas police officer and a woman were found dead after gunfire at the Lake Highlands Landing apartments Saturday night, WFAA reported.

The dead officer was identified as Larry Tuttle, a six-year veteran of the department assigned to the South Central Patrol Division.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that the female shot and killed Officer Tuttle prior to taking her own life,” police spokesman Officer Juan Fernandez said in a written statement Sunday afternoon.

The bodies were found inside a unit at the apartment complex in the 9700 block of Forest Lane.

The relationship between the dead officer and the woman was not made clear, but police indicated that she was “known to Officer Tuttle.”

Dallas is a major city in Texas and is the largest urban center of the fourth most populous metropolitan area in the United States.

The city proper ranks ninth in the U.S. and third in Texas after Houston and San Antonio.
