CALIFORNIA — A 23-year-old man was shot and killed by a deputy in Camarillo after rushed the officer while armed with a knife repeatedly saying, “kill me!”

Sheriff’s Major Crimes investigators have identified the suspect that attacked a uniformed patrol deputy with a knife yesterday in Camarillo as Bryant Neil Duncan. At 11:50 a.m., Duncan called 911 requesting deputies come to his location because he wanted to kill himself.

Shortly after the first deputy arrived on scene, Duncan charged at him with a knife. Fearing for his life, the deputy discharged his firearm at Duncan several times until Duncan no longer posed a threat.

Duncan was transported to an area hospital where he died from his injuries.

Though Duncan does not have a permanent residence, investigators learned he is from the Camarillo area. Sheriff’s Major Crimes Detectives are continuing with the investigation and trying to learn as much as possible about Duncan and what caused him to attack a deputy sheriff.
