Police responded to a deadly mass shooting at Michigan State University in East Lansing Monday evening. Three people were killed and five others were taken to hospitals, police said.
The suspect fatally shot himself hours later as officers approached him at an unknown location, FOX 2 reported.
The unidentified suspect, described as a black male, opened fire inside Berkey Hall around 8:15 p.m.
Responding officers arrived on scene and encountered multiple victims.
Additional shots were later fired at another location on campus, police said.

MSUPD wrote in an alert, “There have been shots fired near Berkey Hall on the East Lansing campus. Please secure-in-place immediately. Police are active on scene. More information to follow.”
Students were told to shelter-in-place and ‘run, hide or fight’ if necessary.
To secure the area, a significant number of emergency services were deployed, and officers secured the scene. Classed were canceled for at least 48 hours.
A possible motive for the shooting remains unknown.
