Two NYPD Officers Shot In The Bronx

NEW YORK — Two NYPD Officers were shot in the Bronx on Thursday night. As we know thus far, two uniformed Officers where inside of the Melrose Houses when they engaged two suspects in a stairwell.  During the stop, the suspects told officers that they had Identification in their apartment. The cops brought the individuals to the apartment. When they entered the apartment, one of the suspects opened fire on the Officers.

One Officer was struck in the left temple and the other was hit in the torso. The shooter was dead at the location, it is believed that he may have a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A female officer was undergoing surgery at Lincoln Hospital. The deceased shooter has been identified as 23-year-old Malik Chavis, sources told New York Daily News.

The incident occurred just after 8:00 PM in the confines of the 40 Precinct. Two firearms were recovered at the scene, a semi-automatic handgun and a shotgun.

The officers were attacked while conducting a vertical patrol during a drug-related investigation.

The NYPD requested a massive “Level 3 Mobilization” to the area.
