MEXICO – Authorities in the Mexican resort of Cancun have discovered eight bodies dumped in the Caribbean resort, and they are now working to identify them, officials said Tuesday.

The bodies were found in clandestine dumping grounds that are often used by drug cartels to dispose of the bodies of their victims.

These discoveries — not uncommon in Mexico — are unusual in Cancun, which is the main attraction of it’s tourism industry.

Searches for clandestine grave sites have become common throughout the country, as more than 112,000 people are listed as missing in Mexico.

According to the AP, the bodies were found in a poor neighborhood about 10 miles from Cancun’s beach and hotel zone, but relatively closer to the resort’s airport.
