Shaw Air Force Base Airmen Die Due To ‘Health Complications’

SUMTER COUNTY, SC — Two airman at Shaw Air Force Base have passed away due to ‘health complications,’ officials say.

Senior Airman Amalia Joseph, assigned to the 20th Component Maintenance Squadron passed away from health complications May 26, 2019 at approximately 3:20 a.m. at Palmetto Health Tuomey, Sumter, South Carolina.

The 32-year-old Airman served as a 20th CMS Electronic Warfare Systems journeyman and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Sept. 22, 2015. Joseph had been stationed to Shaw AFB since April 16, 2016.

“We are overwhelmed by grief with the passing of such a valuable member of our team,” said Maj. Jake Schillinger, 20th CMS commander. “We are blessed to have had the opportunity to know and spend time with an Airman like Amalia. She was a hard worker, determined to overcome any challenge she ever met and brought a personality and perspective to the 20th CMS that will never be replaced. Our hearts and prayers are with all those who grieve this loss with us.”

30-year-old Senior Airman Aaron Hall died from unknown health complications on Sunday.

“Aaron was more than just our coworker, he was our teammate and our friend,” Maj. Jake Schillinger said. “Each of us is feeling the hurt that comes along with such a painful loss. Aaron was the type of Airman who lit up every room he entered with his smile and positive approach to life. He carried such a presence in our squadron and his absence will not go without a great deal of anguish in the coming days, weeks and months. As you can imagine, this has been a heartbreaking week for the 20th CMS. We are grieving alongside all those who loved and cherished Aaron.”
