HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to an active shooter at the STEM charter school near Denver Tuesday.
The school was placed on lockdown and all other schools in the district were on lockout.
The Sheriff said in a news conference that at least seven students have been hurt in the shooting and one was killed. The deceased is an 18-year-old male.
Two unidentified suspects are in custody, one adult and one juvenile — both were students at the school.
The adult suspect has been identified as Devon Erickson, age 18.
Medical helicopters were called to the scene. Numerous fire and rescue crews were also requested.
“Unstable situation, shots fired at STEM school at Ridgeline and Plaza. Avoid area. Media go to north side of AMC,” the department tweeted, adding, “still getting info, believe 2 injured. Please find other routes.”
