Davenport, Iowa – On Wednesday morning, at 9:35 a.m. a disturbance was reported outside of the front main entrance to the Scott County Courthouse.

Two bailiffs from within the courthouse and a Davenport Police Officer responded. Upon arrival they encountered a subject carrying a blunt object. The situation escalated and in the process a less lethal device and a firearm were discharged by bailiffs.

According to OurQuadCities, a witness described seeing a man dressed like a “ninja” run toward the entrance.

Ann Stclair says she was “scared to death.”

“We were coming in the courtroom because my daughter had court today,” Stclair said. “We walked in the doors, we seen this guy coming from across the street and he was, I swear he was dressed like a ninja in all white with like a stick coming out from his back. It looked like a sword to me. We walked in the door and all of a sudden he just came running up to the doors behind us.”

“‘I’m going to get you'” Stclair said that’s what the man said. “We rushed in here and took off into the parking lot.”

A short foot pursuit followed and the subject was taken into custody at W 6th St and Western Ave. The subject and a bailiff were transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries and evaluation.

The investigation is being turned over to the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) with the assistance of the Davenport Police Department.

The bailiff who discharged the firearm is being placed on administrative leave, per policy, pending the results of the investigation.
