On Thursday, the Utah Senate halted debate on several bills affecting transgender youth due to a medical issue experienced by Senator Daniel Thatcher (R-West Valley City).

The incident occurred shortly after a vote to move Senate Bill 16, which aims to prohibit gender-affirming surgeries for individuals under 18 years of age, to the full Senate.

Senator Thatcher, who is recovering from a stroke, was attended to on the chamber floor by several individuals.

After a brief pause, Thatcher remained on the floor and told fellow members, “I’m fine.”
